PORTLAND JULY 9

The weather has been beautifull....
The day has been wonderful.....
We started out with a tram ride through the sites of Portland - this amazing tourist attraction is community owned and run by volunteers all of whom were well groomed, articulate and courteous...
we thoroughly enjoyed it http://www.portlandcabletrams.com.au/index.php/history
we had a real live "clippie" who also did the commentary on board - she was delightful.

The model train club is involved and  inside the  immaculate building  were fantastic interactive
displays

The journey took us past the botannical gardens, the port and a water tower which has been converted to a world war 2 memorial lookout

The Timber Industry is huge down this way - the mounds are wood chip...

Goodbye as we departed at the Information Centre!
We then went back to our van where we are staying at the HOLIDAY VILLAGE PORTLAND - it's right in the middle of the town right opposite a new IGA and we can walk anywhere - highly recommended - but we are the only van in the park all other visitors are in cabins

We then got in the BT50 and headed out to Cape Bridgewater on the recommendation of a young lady I met at Mac's Hotel last night - we had fish and chips in the sun and the fish was FRESH NOT FROZEN...a lovely change....we realised after we drove in that we had been here in 2000 but we probably had a better appreciation of the place this time - immediate impression was the addition of a huge windfarm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Wind_Farm
MASSIVE...............................

And the beach - just beautiful....

and my lovelies enjoyed it too!

We then drove back to town and had a look around their main cbd

Don loved....................the nose in parking!
And so tomorrow we again head off - tomorrow night we will be somewhere on the Great Ocean Road - one of my most favourite parts of anywhere we have ever travelled.
Cheers.....
